How do I mute or archive a chat?

Mute stops the sounds; archive hides the chat until it writes again.

Step by step

  1. Long-press the chat in the list.
  2. Tap Mute — the sounds stop for that chat; tap Unmute the same way to bring them back. Pin keeps a chat at the top; Mark as unread reminds you to come back to it.
  3. Tap Archive to move a chat out of the list. Archived chats sit under Archived at the top; a new message brings the chat back to the list.
